Kinner Beauty Wigs: A Social Enterprise Designed To

Unleash The Beauty Within

The journey beyond cancer treatment isn't just about being disease-free, but about rediscovering yourself and reclaiming your joy. It's about moving from "cancer patient" to "thriving individual."

Why Wigs?

In December 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Susan G. Komen Orange County approached Cancer Kinship to take over their 20-year-old free wig program during their remote transition. We eagerly accepted, excited to support newly diagnosed cancer patients in need of wigs. This transition involved moving over 300 wigs from the Komen office in Irvine to our office at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA.

We quickly immersed ourselves in learning about wigs—from cap construction and materials to hairstyles, colors, textures, and lengths. We were surprised by the high cost of new wigs, especially human hair wigs. When COVID mandates lifted in 2022 and our offices reopened, we recognized the need for an actual salon for our clients and moved into a salon suite in 2023.

Within the first year of operating our new free wig program, "Kinner Beauty," we gifted over 100 wigs to cancer patients in need. By the following year, this number more than doubled, with over 260 wigs gifted. With the American Cancer Society reporting an uptick in late-stage cancer diagnoses in four screenable cancers in 2024, it is essential for us to meet the needs of this growing population.

We are grateful for the trust placed in Cancer Kinship to continue the legacy started by Komen and remain committed to supporting cancer warriors through our Kinner Beauty Wigs program. As our free wig program and overall organization continue to grow, it is vital for us to seek community support through donations, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and by developing our online wig store. Your support through purchasing from Kinner Beauty Wigs helps sustain our mission and makes a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

Kinner Beauty Wigs: More Than Just Another Wig Store

Kinner Beauty Wigs, the online wig store, was developed by Cancer Kinship through participation in UCLA's Academy of Social Entrepreneurship and OctaneOC's Nonprofit Accelerator programs. This initiative aims to create a sustainable business model that supports our charitable mission.

By establishing an online wig store and forging an exclusive partnership with Envy Wigs, we offer high-quality wigs with 100% of net sales directly supporting our programs.

Operating our social enterprise ensures the continuity of our efforts to reduce cancer recurrence risks, address the emotional impact of cancer, and empower cancer survivors and their families by providing reliable, ongoing resources and support.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible social enterprise partners (see full list below) for supporting our entrepreneurial endeavor. Together with our wig-wearing community, we are making a lasting impact, one wig at a time.
